Get to Know… Katy! 

Katy Skinner joined Vovia in the spring of 2023, coming from a role working in fashion marketing and luxury consignment, specializing in social media. She works with our client service team.

What is your role at Vovia?

As an Account Coordinator, my role is to connect our clients’ hopes with our team’s vision, and align them towards one unified goal. Building strong relationships with my clients is what I strive for. I’ve recently taken on the role of assisting the Vovia social media team, and have also become known as the resident ‘Office DJ’. 

What do you love/what are you most passionate about?

My true love is fashion. Scouring the internet for vintage designer pieces or scoring a great deal gives me a thrill every time. And while I love the excitement of a deep-discount or end-of-season-sale, learning the history of designers and watching brands grow and evolve through the decades is captivating. I also have a passion for photography; creating something beautiful is incredibly fulfilling.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise people.

I grew up dreaming of becoming a famous singer and actor. My insatiable appetite for musicals bordered on the verge of unhealthiness. It was my vice, but instead of chocolate, it was a flurry of jazz hands. And while that dream is now out of sight, I do enjoy an animated karaoke session every now and then. From singing “7-rings,” to finding the Ring—I am also an avid Lord of The Rings fan and can proudly quote almost all 3 movies from start to finish. Still waiting on that musical, so my worlds (and opportunities) can finally collide. 

What do you do in your spare time?

How do I say this (Holly-Go)lightly… when I’m not petting my kittens, I’m wishing I was petting my kittens. I have two Persian cats that are the centre of my world. After stumbling across a rather charming Kijiji ad, Lucifer pawed his way into my life and changed my world forever with the purrfect touch. Nearly 6 months later, his father was up for adoption. We quickly seized the opportunity and welcomed Rupert into our life—keeping the feline-family together. They each have their own distinctive charm; some say they look like dolls, and they aren’t wrong. Now we have a little household with two furry angels, and it’s my favourite place to spend my spare time. 

What is the best part about working at Vovia?

While I was first in awe of the buzzing 17th Ave location, my favourite part about Vovia is the inspiring individuals I get to work with every day. My coworkers are always pushing me to grow, learn, and become the best version of myself. Having a safe environment to ask questions and to be yourself is just one of the many reasons I love working here
