Genevieve Celebrates 5 Years at Vovia

This week on the blog we are celebrating another 5 year anniversary, this time for Senior Digital Marketing Specialist, Genevieve. Genevieve joined the team in 2017 as an SEM and Paid Social specialist, and has continued to grow in her role and drive outstanding performance for clients in several industries. In this post, she reflects on her years at Vovia so far, the changes that have impacted our industry, developments in her personal life, and much more. Read on!

What has been your top highlight in the past 5 years, if you had to choose one?

Just one? There have been so many highlights over the last five years it’s almost impossible to dwindle it down to just one highlight! From our daily lunch-hour trivia games (who remembers HQ Trivia?!) to holiday parties in Banff and many fun team builder events, I have developed quite the library of great memories with my fellow Vovians, old and new. On a professional level, my top highlight was when we were named finalists in the Display Innovation category at the Google Premier Partner Awards. It felt quite surreal to be recognized on that level and gave me a push to continue to think outside the box and innovate where I can.

What’s the most interesting development you’ve seen in the industry over the past 5 years?

It’s been crazy to watch how quickly the industry has evolved over the last 5 years, particularly with audience targeting trends and capabilities. 5 years ago it was really a race to see just how granular you could get with audience targeting and retargeting tactics but now that the conversation has really shifted around privacy, we’re pretty rapidly going back to more broad targeting tactics we were running away from not so long ago. It has definitely kept the job interesting over the years though as our team is always testing, learning and adapting.

You mentioned in your original get-to-know post that your wanderlust was undeniable, is that still a big part of who you are today?

Definitely! In my get-to-know post, Bali was my last travel adventure and I thought Japan, Croatia or Morocco would likely be next on the list. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a halt to my travels over the last two years but before our world changed, I managed to visit Peru, NYC, Mexico, Montreal and Costa Rica! Now that I’ve had two years without travel I am definitely itching to get back on a plane. And although I’ve been to Mexico a good 7-8 times already, I think that may be my first destination. The beach and hot, humid weather are calling my name.

Any new fun facts about you since your original get-to-know post?

It’s a bit crazy to look back on my first get-to-know post and see how much life has changed in 5 short years. Back then I had just gotten married and brought home a new puppy, Lola. (Side note – Lola never quite mastered being an office dog 😅 but she has been the absolute best work-from-home co-worker so it all worked out for her in the end). Now fast forward 5 years and our family has grown by two tiny humans!
