Get to Know…Abhijit
What is your role at Vovia?
I joined Vovia as a Marketing Intelligence Specialist. I love numbers and I’m passionate about helping brands achieve transformational business results using a data-driven marketing strategy. Apart from being in Google Analytics and Tag Manager all day, I also like to learn and explore new data analytics tools and building models using data sets. I also code in Python and I’m trying to implement the data science knowledge to help brands achieve better results.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I like to chill at home, watch a good movie or two and listen to music. I also like to explore new places, go mountain biking and cook.
We hear you are a fan of death metal and explore new genres of music – who is your favourite band?
Music for me has been a journey and I love exploring new genres of music. My all-time favourite bands include God is an Astronaut and Lamb of God. Currently, I’m listening to post-metal and post-rock bands like Toundra, If These Trees Could Talk, Balmorrhea, This Patch of Sky and This Will Destroy You.
What do you love/what are you most passionate about?
I have a huge passion for travel, photography and music. I have ridden a bike on the highest motorable pass in the world (Khardung la pass – 18,380 ft) in Leh and trekked a few mountains in the Himalayan ranges. I have been to 12 countries so far across Europe, Asia and North America. The thing I love most about Calgary is it’s proximity to nature and how a good hike is just a couple of hours away!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise people.
I like to go the extra mile for a photo or a task and this has landed me in trouble sometimes. For example, I once got lost in the Austrian Alps and my friends almost had to get a rescue team to find me. I am also a creative person and like to paint occasionally.
So, we hear you like to travel, which are your favourite spots you have visited?
I love road trips!! I have been on an eastern Europe road trip in Austria and Croatia and a cross country France trip where I started from Paris to the French Riviera. The most recent one was a cross-country Canada trip from Toronto to Calgary in my BMW. If I had to choose my favourite spots, I absolutely loved Etretat, Hallstatt, Leh, Zadar, Maldives and the Canadian Rockies.
What is the best part about working at Vovia?
I have worked with quite a few companies and brands in my career and the best thing about working at Vovia is the positivity and optimism of the people. Everyone is super knowledgeable, and the learning curve is stunning. Vovia as an organization is always open to trying new things and this is a great way to explore and learn in the digital & data science world which keeps changing often.
