Get To Know… Tawleen!

You’re originally from India, when did you move to North America?

I moved to the US seven years ago to study business administration, I worked in banking for a while, then moved to Ontario last year to finish a grad program in marketing. I saw a retargeting ad for Vovia and knew that my future lay in Calgary…ok, maybe not, my professor recommended Vovia as a great place to start my digital marketing career. I have my advanced certification in Google AdWordsNew-Tawleen and am also certified in Google Analytics.

So what do you do at Vovia?

Well, I’d like think that I provide excellent comic relief, but I suppose I was hired to manage PPC ad campaigns on Google and Facebook. Not everyone has SEM superpowers, but I’ve decided to use my powers for good by helping our clients get great results from their online ad campaigns.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is working with people that ‘get it’. My coworkers are not only strategically minded and smart, they also constantly crack some pretty funny jokes! I also like the dynamic nature of the digital marketing industry. It keeps me on my toes and there is always more to learn. Lastly, I sure like cuddling with our office dog Mila!

What are some misconceptions about online marketing?

There are many misconceptions when it comes to online marketing but the ones that I come across most often are:

  • Online marketing is hardly scientific: Metrics are the heart and soul of online marketing! We use metrics to create campaigns, evaluate target markets, and determine success. The goal of online marketing is to get the right product in front of the right person at the right time, period. This is only possible through extensive data analysis.
  • Anyone can do it: Online marketing needs a carefully planned strategy and substantial marketing knowledge. It requires a great deal of effort, willingness to learn, and constant adaptation to remain ahead of the curve.
  • No one clicks on those ‘Google Ads’: This one just makes me laugh. More than 97% of Google’s annual revenue comes from paid advertising.  Businesses are getting significant ROI with online advertising and that’s why they continue to spend more and more on it every year.

What’s your luxury item on Survivor?

Ok, so realistically my chances on Survivor are not awesome as I don’t know how to swim. That being said, I’d probably bring one of those inflatable islands. How awesome would it be to have my own island while being stuck on an island? I’d have comfort to sleep on at night, plus during the day I could chill out on the island while it floats around in the ocean. I’d invite people to relax on my island and form my own alliance.

What are some things about you that would surprise people?

I definitely get my money’s worth on Netflix each month.  I have watched over 500 documentaries on YouTube and Netflix, so I pretty much know everything there is to know about everything 😉 If you want to avoid winter and stay inside, I recommend Earth’s Core, Inside a Black Hole, and What the Ancients Knew-India.

Where is the best place you’ve travelled?

I really love Florida, and I’ll tell you why – I just LOVE old people. You might wonder why, but what’s not to like? They have lots of great stories, retirement seems awesome, and they use phrases like “whippersnapper”. I’ve tried to call people a whippersnapper around here and no one knew what I was talking about.
