Get to know… Mike!
What is your role at Vovia?
I am a Senior Online Marketer at Vovia, focusing on paid advertising. In everyday English, I help craft online marketing strategies for Vovia clients and then help execute the plan. I work on everything from Google Search Advertising (PPC), to remarketing/retargeting, to social media advertising, including Facebook/Linked In.
What’s the most interesting part of your job?
This might sound cliché – but every day is a new challenge. I deal with such an amazing variety of clients at Vovia – all with different needs and business goals/KPIs – that every day is a different experience. In addition, online marketing is one of the most dynamic and ever-changing industries, so it really does keep you on your toes.
What would you say to an organization thinking about starting a PPC campaign?
Look beyond cost-per-click, click-through rate and most other metrics that you hear about constantly with pay-per-click advertising. To be successful with PPC, you need to identify the goal that you are trying to achieve. Do you want to drive more sales? Do you want to generate more leads? Do you want to acquire email addresses to engage with potential customers at a later date? All of your strategies and tactics should flow from your goals – not from the price Google charges you for a click.
What would your luxury item on Survivor be?
Without question, my Kindle (…with a hypothetical source of power, of course).
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
Probably being the first person in my extended family to attend graduate school (I am currently pursuing my MBA part-time through the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business).
If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I would probably go to Paris in the early 1950’s to soak up culture, drink wine and, most of all, try to become friends with Mordecai Richler.
