What is your role at Vovia?

Faryn! What’s the best part of your job?

I love working in the fast-paced and ever changing world of online marketing. I also get to work with an amazing and talented group of people who I learn from and laugh with every day. We are all on the same page and working towards the same goal—to deliver the best outcome for our clients.

What are some misconceptions when it comes to online marketing?

There are important differences between online and traditional marketing that are often misunderstood. Here are a few misconceptions about online that I come across most often:

  1. All the results on the first page of Google are paid for: While there are paid results that appear at the top and side bar of Google Search, the results that occur with no background colour are all organic. Organic results appear based on many factors according to the Google algorithm, such as relevancy, unique page content, website coding, and more.
  2. Online marketing is simple and easy to do: Many people believe online campaigns can be created instantly and still achieve top results. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The most effective campaigns require planning, strategy, and a high degree of knowledge in both their set-up and management. At Vovia, we use every resource to ensure the campaigns we create are strategic, targeted, and most of all effective. We also take the time to analyze results and tweak or add new components to ensure the best possible performance.
  3. Once you’re in top spot, you stay there: While online is incredibly flexible and allows for ongoing optimization, strong performance requires a continual investment.  Google is constantly adjusting their algorithm, while other sites are striving to improve their rankings—the net result is that while you may be in top spot today, online is not a “set it and forget it” strategy. It takes time to build credibility online so it’s important to have patience, constantly test, and look at the big picture of your investment when evaluating your ROI.

We heard you have a soft spot for rescue dogs?

I sure do! My sister and I have adopted two dogs so far. Chase is our Border Collie cross with the human eyes, and Jack is our big baby German Shepherd cross. I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures and videos documenting my dogs’ adorable quirkiness. There is nothing more rewarding than taking in an abandoned dog and seeing how they grow and change into happy puppies. Although I have two big dogs in my condo right now, I can’t help but spend time online looking at dogs ups for adoption. My favorite rescue is the Alberta Animal Crew Society.

What’s your luxury item on survivor?

I am a total “pot head” so I would bring my entire Harry Potter series to read over, and over again.
