What is your role at Vovia?

I am a Senior Search Engine Optimization Specialist, which means I get to work with our amazing clients to develop and execute organic search marketing strategies.

To put that in simpler terms, I help clients follow best practices to increase their organic exposure and visibility on major search engines like Google.

How did you get into digital marketing in the first place?

Necessity, really. I started my first business out of my grandmother’s basement when I was 15. I quickly learned the importance of marketing and since the business was primarily online, my focus was in digital marketing. After receiving my Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University, majoring in marketing and management, I dove into the world of SEO to learn and apply as much as I could.

I ended up starting and selling multiple businesses over the past decade, and SEO played a very important role in all of them.

Coming from an entrepreneurial background, I could also tell that my style of learning and work would fit in well here at Vovia. So, when the opportunity to work for Vovia arose I didn’t hesitate for a second, and I have loved every minute since!

What is the best part of your job?

It’s difficult to answer this question with a single answer because I love so many things about my job. I love how passionate our clients are about their businesses and having the opportunity to help them grow online is truly a great feeling.

The team at Vovia is also something I really admire about working here. Each team member really is at the forefront of their specialty, which brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the company and makes working with them all that much more exciting.

We understand that you work remotely. Can you tell us more about this?

Yes! I live in  beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia—I like to think that I bring a bit of East Coast flair to Vovia. Since I am three hours ahead of the rest of the team, I also like to brag that I’m always the first one “in the office” every morning.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I like to spend a lot of my free time with my family; however, when I’m not chasing around my 6 and 2 year olds, you’ll certainly find me at the local gym training for either a race or a fitness competition. I also enjoy finding myself a good pick-up game of basketball.
